| Conant came to Mestizo by a chance meeting with a contractor who was working on his home and noticed the saxophone case in his living room, after a brief conversation and some phone number exchanges, the contractor told him of a project that was beginning called Phaze Two. Phaze Two eventually Phazed-out and Conant latter received a call from a couple of the previous members of that project who were putting together a "new" project which later came to be Mestizo. Conant has Played in San Francisco's City College Big Bands with David Hardiman. Studied with Charlie McCarthy and Bill Fiege. He enjoys listening to Sonny Rollins, Pepper Adams, Charlie Parker, and Harvey Wainapple. When not giging with Mestizo he still dabbles in late night jam sessions with other bay area brass players at various clubs in the Richmond district of San Francisco. |
